Pregnant Woman Held Down During Procedure
When she had her aspiration abortion, “S” says it “felt like two mixing beaters were tearing out my baby from the inside,” and “they held down my legs, rather than giving me stirrups.” The 19-year-old, post-abortive woman, who stopped at the parish offices of the Church of the Resurrection and the New Life Center , was counseled out of having a second abortion Monday.
Church secretary, Ann Carlson, said, “She told me when she walked in that she had a couple of questions. She thought we were still the abortion clinic.”
That’s when the New Life Center staff brought “S” into a counseling room to hear her story about a previous abortion by the doctor, Theodore Roumell, at WomanCare clinic.
Violating Laws Intended to Protect Women
When “S” had an abortion two years ago, at 1601 East Grand River, the former WomanCare clinic, she told us that she heard her baby’s heartbeat during a vaginal ultrasound. “We’re sorry,” the clinic worker told her, “you weren’t supposed to hear that.” Rather than celebrate the sound of life, the employee realized she might be losing her patient. What happened next was a violation of Michigan law.
“S” asked to see the ultrasound of her 10-week-old unborn child, but they wouldn’t turn round the monitor in her direction.
When she asked for a printout of the photo image of her child, she was told, “The printer is broken.”
Then, she waited for six hours for the abortionist to show up. When “S” was finally led into a room for the abortion, she was told to lay down on the table.
She lay flat, as there were no stirrups. When the abortionist walked in, two clinic workers held down her legs. “He didn’t talk to me much,” said “S” and he was wearing a blood-stained apron over a doctor’s coat. “How can they let him get away with those dirty conditions?” she asked.
Today, “S” is scheduled to receive a free ultrasound at Pregnancy Services, on Lansing’s west side, after we called for her and spoke with the staff at the Elmwood Street Center. Thank you, to our friends, at Pregnancy Services.
