In Lansing and Pontiac, 750 Thanksgiving baskets and bags of food will be delivered to the poor, a concrete way to fulfill the message of mercy to feed the hungry.

Lansing’s Brent Heyer, and a crew of dozens of volunteers, is making sure families in need will indeed have a real Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday. He heads a group called Daily Apostle, and 16 years ago he decided to put the words of Jesus Christ into action.

The volunteers start early in the morning, by loading up hundreds of donated turkeys and bags of other holiday staples.

Then, volunteer drivers will deliver the food where it is needed to local residents. Needy families can also pick up their turkeys at participating partner organizations like Hispanic Outreach Services in Pontiac and Cristo Rey Community Center, Shared Pregnancy, Pregnancy Services, and clients ofSt. Vincent DePaul Store in Lansing.

Individuals and families will meet Wednesday, November 25, at the Church of the Resurrection Parish Hall, 1501 East Grand River, in Lansing, following the 8:15 a.m. Mass to begin loading up the bags and baskets. Then, at 12:30 p.m. bags will be assembled, loaded into vehicles and delivered throughout Lansing. High school and collegestudents are welcome!
