Lavinia Reynolds knows the overwhelming torrent of grief, guilt and remorse of abortion. She underwent 14 abortions, beginning at the age of 13, with an illegal procedure paid for her by her mother.
Lavinia, a New Life Center volunteer, says her past was filled with generational curses, including child mental abuse, abortions, drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex addictions, rape, domestic abuse, crime, and mental illness. This led to depression, suicidal thoughts, post-traumatic stress disorder, and failed relationships. She sought God in prayer because of her thirst for freedom from the deep and lasting wounds of abortion.
Lavinia, pictured here on Healing Women’s Heart Christian Radio, says that sharing her story has helped other women to heal from abortion.
She says, “This is my story of child abuse, drug addiction, abortions, rapes, domestic abuse, and mental illness. My prayer is that you will feel my pain and understand the generational curses, which I learned through research, began back during slavery in my family.”
At the New Life Center, a ministry of the Church of the Resurrection, we are hosting post-abortion recovery classes to help women heal. On our Project Rachel Helpline, (517) 993-0291, women may ask us for referrals to counseling or psychiatric care, spiritual direction by priests and pastors, and mental health professionals.
These caring people are specially selected and trained to assist in ministry to those who have been wounded. The mission of our ministry is to offer healing and consolation, as Saint Pope John Paul II has said in Evangelium Vitae (n.99), so that women may feel forgiven and be set free.
“The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child who is now living in the Lord.”
If you have experienced trauma from an abortion, please consider the help we offer. To register for “Forgiven and Set Free,” our next post-abortion recovery class, call (517) 993-0291. The class begins Wednesday, January 6, and continues for eight weeks through February 24, 2016.
