A desperate mother, 9.5 weeks pregnant and seeking to end the life of her unborn baby, entered the Church of the Resurrection parish offices at 1601 East Grand River, but changed her mind.
Praise God! After just 30 minutes of pregnancy counseling and an offer to receive an ultrasound, the woman and her husband had a complete change of heart!
“Genevieve” had paid for a termination at WomanCare clinic several years ago, before the church and the Diocese of Lansing took over the first floor of the building, and signed a contract with the building owners for a 33-month-lease of the space. The pregnant mother and her husband were intercepted by Ann Carlson, church secretary, who directed her to the north suite of the building, the New Life Center, for counseling and a referral to Shared Pregnancy for a free ultrasound. The couple was struggling financially, working overtime, and had concerns about day-care help.
The couple agreed to an ultrasound appointment after being shown life-like rubber fetal models and a timeline of pregnancy. The father of the baby, in particular, was fascinated by the baby models, and agreed to take his wife to the ultrasound appointment. After seeing the baby suck its thumb and move around in-utero, the couple has decided to remain in the pregnancy!
Thank you for writing letters and opinions to the editor at the Lansing State Journal. Together, we are informing the public about the negative impact the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision will have on women’s health, after the court overturned a Texas law that held abortion facilities to the same standards as ambulatory surgical centers and required abortionists to obtain hospital admitting privileges.Letters to the Editor must be 175 words or fewer and may run in print on the opinion page under the ‘Your Opinions’ header. You must include your address and phone number for verification purposes when you fill out the form or email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit.
While states such as Michigan have faithfully lobbied the legislature to tighten regulation and oversight, the U.S. Supreme Court has once again ignored the rights of unborn babies and the health risks to vulnerable women in crisis. See our NLC blog.
Congratulations to Lansing Boy Scout Troop 316’s newest Eagle Scout, Matt Biewer (third from the left), on his accomplishment of achieving the highest rank in boy scouting. Thank you, Matt, for your Eagle Scout project to renovate the New Life Center in 2014.
